Please help support little Máximo in this time of tremendous loss.
On February 11, 2021, Máximo's papá, Sebastian Morel-Ferreira, suffered a massive heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest. In the following minutes his husband, Ryan, and a kind neighbor, performed CPR as they waited for paramedics to arrive. It is not known for how long Sebastian was without oxygen. Placed in a medically induced coma for 48 hours, no one knew the potential outcome.
After tests on Sebastian's brain showed aggressive brain damage, the reality hit that Sebastian would never wake from this coma and Máximo would not know his papá in real life--but through stories and memories. Sebastian passed on February 18, 2021 after donating his organs to two individuals in need. It was the ultimate act of generosity for which Sebastian was well-known.
He was only 39 years old.
While Sebastian's time with us was far too short, he leaves a legacy of being an eternal optimist with a passion for life and adventure. He had a gift for bringing people together and creating community, for he firmly believed that love is a universal thread that binds people from every country, culture, and walk of life. His friendships were brilliant and deep, and being Sebastian’s friend meant becoming a part of his extended family through which lifelong bonds were made.
One of Sebastian's dreams for Máximo, 18 months old, is that he knows and travels to his homeland of Paraguay and is fluent in his native language, Spanish.
Sebastian's family appreciates the outpouring of love and support that so many of you have already provided and for asking how best to help. Please consider making a contribution to Máximo in memory of Sebastian. All proceeds will be used towards future educational opportunities and so that Máximo has the financial means to travel to Paraguay throughout his childhood.
Sebastian was one of the kindest, most loving, and charismatic individuals you could meet. Máximo, for sure, will take after his papá with his dad Ryan by his side--but they need your support now to ensure Máximo is afforded the life Sebastian intended for his little boy.
