Support for Leslie, Danny & Cooper's Home Crisis

I'm Leslie, and my fiancé Danny and our standard poodle Cooper moved into our first home as owners in June of 2024. We spent a year renovating and putting our heart into this home, and in less than a year of owning it, we have been devastated by a tree falling onto our house.

We love our home so much! Danny was an amazing project manager, and we loved customizing it to our needs and for Cooper to finally fit into our new king-sized bed! It was our little family’s oasis for a sweet, short time.

Thankfully, I was at work, but Danny had just taken Cooper for a quick walk during a break between the constant rain on April 5th. Suddenly, strong winds and rain picked up, and he hurried home with Cooper. Just moments after stepping in the door, he heard an enormous wind blow through and two huge crashes before the gigantic tree from two houses over finally crashed onto our roof.

The tree completely cut our neighbor's house in half. Thankfully, the neighbors, Danny, and Cooper were unhurt. Our outdoor kitty is also okay, and we are going to continue to go back to feed her! We are so thankful for those neighbors who dashed in to help with towels and tarps, as it continued to rain for hours.

Over the next 10 hours and into the next two days, we did constant damage control on our hands and knees as water was streaming into the house from several locations, and glass, insulation, and drywall were everywhere. Furniture had to be moved, barrels and buckets had to be changed out, sopping wet towels exchanged for new ones, and tarps covered what we could. As things got wetter, the ceiling continued to collapse in large chunks over the kitchen island, and water would continue getting under the tarps, and we would dry and re-set them over and over.

We are now staying in a hotel. Cooper is missing his kitty, his yard, and his cuddle spots. He is being very brave though, and being such a good emotional support poodle!

On top of everything else, we are in the middle of planning for our wedding in November, and we will be super busy and stressed for the foreseeable future!!

Eventually, we will have to rent a house while we assess the damage and repair it. Please, if you can, we are in need of support to help us with everyday expenses such as meals, laundromat expenses, essentials for Cooper to stay happy and healthy, and things you need when going through an emergency like this.
