Support for Mikova and Family

A month ago Mikova and her mom Julica came down with Covid-19. We were all so thankful that Kova had no symptoms and after several days had passed, Julica herself was able to get better. But unfortunately a little more than a week ago, Mikova began to show symptoms of a new and concerning secondary illness that has been appearing in children after they have Coronavirus.
This is known as Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome, where Kova suddenly was dealing with severe levels of organ inflammation systematically, especially in her heart. Due to the severity of Kova's condition she was hospitalized at UW-Madison Hospital in the Pediatric ICU for testing, treatment with high levels of steroids, immunoglobulin therapy and close monitoring by specialists. Currently to-date there are only 935 confirmed cases nationwide.
During this past week Mikova has been receiving exceptional care at UW Hospital, and she is now a part of a study not only to help monitor her even after released from the hospital, but also to help learn more about this concerning illness in children, so that it can be better treated in the future.
Mikova has been responding well to the treatments she is receiving. When she first arrived she was completely unable to walk or eat and now is starting to walk, play with toys and nibble on hospital food. However, despite her making incredible strides with healing, she still faces concerns for her heart and brain. Due to severe inflammation Kova has developed a Type I-heart block (a condition where the heart beats too slowly) and has an area on the bottom of her heart that does not move as it should when beating (hypokinesia). Cardiology is closely monitoring this development and is optimistic that Kova may be able to recover normal heart function over time. Due to the instability of her heart rate, they have not been able to do an MRI of her heart and brain, and still hope they will be able to do this to rule out further concerns.
As you can imagine this has been a scary time for Julica and the entire family. To have your child in the hospital with an illness that is still not fully understood by physicians, so uncertain about what to expect and the future of your child's health, is overwhelming. In addition to all of that, there is the concern for financial hardship. Julica has been unable to work during the time they had Covid-19 and this entire time of Kova's hospitalization, with no compensation of wages. Medical expenses and future treatment can be costly and unpredictable.
This Go Fund me has been created to support Julica Rose Kelly and her daughter Mikova during this difficult time. All funds raised will go directly to Julica Rose Kelly to be used for cost of living, compensation of wages, medical expenses and other necessary needs of the family.
