Support for Kim Fossmo

In 2015, my dear sister and best friend Kim was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer of the Colon. By the time they had discovered it, the cancer had already spread to the liver.  The doctors were able to remove the cancer in the colon, but there were too many spots on the liver to do any surgery.  There is currently no cure for this cancer, but thankfully it is slow moving and non-aggressive.  The treatment to control the cancer is monthly injections, and the cost for each shot is $15,000. It has been almost three years now that Kim has been taking these monthly shots.

We were hopeful that with treatment, the cancer and complications would stop there. However, in the spring of 2017, Kim was diagnosed with Melanoma on her eye. She went through surgery and radiation and the cancer in now dead.  We are so thankful to the Lord for this.  Unfortunately, it was also at this time when Kim began to experience difficulty with breathing, only to find out, she has Carcinoid Heart Disease.  The doctors discovered that the tumors on her liver produce hormones that create a plaque on the heart.  This has caused her tricuspid valve to completely stop working. Kim has been living with this condition for the last year, and her doctors and surgeons have decided that Kim needs surgery. This month, Kim will undergo open heart surgery to replace one of the valves on her heart.

Over the past few years, my sister Kim and my dear brother-in-law, Dana, have accumulated steep medical bills due to numerous appointments at Houston’s MD Anderson cancer center, various treatments, surgeries, etc. Their insurance deductible is high and reached each year because of these costs. Dana is a teacher and coach, and Kim has a part-time job but is unable to work until she is relieved of this heart condition.

My sister is one of the most loving and giving people that I know. She and Dana give their time, their resources, and their love selflessly and freely to those around them. Anyone who has met Kim, knows and has been blessed by her kindness and her gentle spirit.  Kim and Dana have their complete hope and trust in the Lord, and have leaned on Him and His Word through all of this.

While we are trusting God for his healing and his grace, we also believe that he made his people to care for the sick and love people who are in need. Please join me in praying for my sister, Kim, and supporting her and Dana financially through this difficult time.
