Hello Family and Friends,
On August 21, 2020 my Dad was taken to the ER for what we thought were just complications from a fall. Once at the ER, X-rays were taken of his arm, he has fractures in multiple places that will require a plate to be put in. They started running tests and discovered that a lot more was going on with my Dad's health than initially thought, so they made the decision to admit him into the hospital in the ICU.
Being in the ICU, we have learned that he has a couple of serious infections going on and complications from other medical issues he already had. He is currently on life support as his heart, lungs, kidneys and liver are beginning to fail. He is on multiple medications (about a dozen) to try to contain the infections, regulate his blood sugar, regulate his blood pressure/heart rate and pain management. He is in a state of sedation and is awake, though not entirely coherent. They are going to begin dialysis today (8/23) and have assigned a nurse to him specifically that will have no other patients but him, so he can be receiving the best care possible around the clock.
Anyone who has met my Dad instantly fell in love with him. He has been an incredible father, provider, mentor and example to us all. He has a wonderful sense of humor, strong work ethic and drive to take care of those around him. It is his time to be taken care of. My parents have had a rough few years, and are not in the greatest position to financially take on this burden alone. My mother works just as hard as my father, and will be going on FMLA until we get my Dad healthy again. She needs to focus on him and herself right now, so she will not have the income to support their household for the time being.
I am reaching out to all and any that can help them in their time of need. As you all know, my father is a proud man and is the last person to ask for help, as his sole drive is to take care of others and never wants to be a burden. I am asking for him.
As we navigate this very dark time in our life, the outpouring of support and prayers I have received from all the lives my Dad has touched has just been so amazing. I know we are nowhere near close to being out of the woods, but I am trying to focus on the light shining down in between the branches.
At this time, my father is unable to respond to any phone calls, texts, Facebook messages or emails. I will be keeping his phone on me as well making myself available for anyone that has any questions or would like to send thoughts and prayers.
My family and I are truly grateful for all and any help that you can provide, even if it is just some kind words about my beloved Daddy.
