Help Jose Castro Walk Again

Gracias por sus oraciones y apoyo. Sin su gran amor y caridad no podríamos ayudar a Jose Manuel a seguir adelante pero seguimos luchando cada minuto con mucha fe en que Dios solo va obrar maravillas en el.
Este es un camino muy largo, de muchas batallas como esta que tenemos muy pronto, ya que en Diciembre, está programada una intervención de células madres (stem cells) para que José pueda ganar energía, fuerza, y todo lo que Dios pueda permitir. Es un procedimiento que no lo cubre el seguro y que debe hacerse 2 veces al año, esto será en Minnesota con el Dr. Joel Baumgartner y para lograr esto seguimos necesitando mucho apoyo y sus oraciones.
Gracias nuevamente a todas las personas que con sus donaciones y oraciones están haciendo posible las batallas que Jose Manuel esta enfrentando para Volver a caminar!

Ayuda a Jose Manuel a volver a caminar
José Manuel está finalmente en casa, comenzando una vida nueva, con muchos retos para él y para toda la familia.
Su meta es volver a caminar, pero para lograrlo, necesitamos muchas oraciones y el apoyo de la comunidad.
Las terapias son extremadamente costosas y el seguro solo cubre 30 horas al año, que están a punto de terminar. José Manuel debe hacer como mínimo 10 horas a la semana de terapias que el seguro no cubre.
Adicionalmente, su vivienda necesita ser adaptada y José Manuel necesita comprar equipos para hacer sus terapias en su hogar todos los días, adicionalmente a las terapias en el hospital.
José Manuel es un luchador y sus terapias las hace con mucho empeño y tenacidad para lograr sus metas.

Help Jose regain his ability to walk
José Manuel is home starting a new life and facing new challenges.
His goal is to regain his ability to walk, and to get there he needs the support of his community and to know you're thinking of him.
Physical therapy is incredibly expensive and the insurance only covers 30 hours of PT a year. Jose needs to do 10 hours of PT a week to have a chance at regaining his ability to walk, however the insurance won't cover all of the hours he needs.
Additionally, his home needs to be retrofitted to become more accessible and José needs PT equipment at home to continue with in-home therapy.
José is a fighter and he puts a lot of effort into his therapies. Please help us help him accomplish his goal.

Jose is working hard to recover but has a long and tiresome way to go. The doctors told us to expect a recovery time of at least a year, which is why our parents are dedicating themselves to helping Jose recover full-time. We are currently fixing up our home to make it more accessible and we are using the funds we collected to buy gym equipment for physical therapy. As we proceed with recovery and costs rack up, we ask that you keep sharing this gofundme for individuals who would like to make a small contribution.

Update:12/21/20
Jose's surgery was a success now he is asleep in intensive care. Although his journey to recovery is just getting started we are hopeful he will regain his ability to walk. We are so grateful for all the support we have received, we are updating the amount based on additional hospital costs and at-home physical therapy equipment.
Update: 12/24/20
Jose's surgery was a success and now he is recovering. While this will be a long and painful path to recovery, we are confident that Jose will persevere. He is currently in intensive care, and we are waiting for his vitals to stabilize and for his body to adapt to the implant in his vertebrae. Last night (23rd) he had a problem with phlegm buildup in his lungs which required quick action from the medical team. He now has to get rid of the phlegm before getting discharged from intensive care and starting physical therapy at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Update: 1/4/21
Thanks to everyone that has donated and sent messages of support. We are heartened by the outpour of support that has come our family's way. Jose had a tracheostomy done to reduce the amount of intubation needed to help his breathing. For a moment we thought he contracted covid, but he tested negative on December 31st. Jose is slowly recovering and is no longer in an induced coma. We were able to be there for him and talk to him while he was awake. He can't speak but we are able to read his lips when he tries to say something. Our mom, Rocio Valdez, has quit her job to take care of him as he recovers.
Update 2/9/21:
Jose Manuel sigue en terapias intensivas respiratorias. Sigue recuperandose dia tras dia y ya puede comer. Ya le han desconectado los tubos de la traqueotomia y que finalmente los trasladen al Jackson Memorial como in-patient para iniciar sus terapias. Muchas gracias a todos por su ayuda y oraciones en estos momentos dificiles.

Jose Manuel is still in intensive therapy and his recovery is progressing day by day. He is now able to eat solid foods, we fed him empanadas from Manny's a few days ago. They have removed the tubes from the tracheotomy to prepare him for his transfer to Jackson Memorial where he will start physical therapy as an in-patient. We are so thankful for your support and your prayer during these hard times.

After an accident on December, 20th Jose is currently in the hospital awaiting an Anterior Cervical Corpectomy. We were told that it is likely that he will not be able to walk again, but we are hopeful that the surgery will go well and that he'll recover from this. Our parents, Rocio Valdez and Jorge Castro are tending to him everyday.
We are asking our community for help by contributing to pay for medical costs and physical therapy. We want Jose to have the best shot at recovery and it would mean so much to our family to have your support.
