Support for Harper Elizabeth and Isla Rose

Hello everyone, my name is Hannah Poisson-Smith, and I am a friend and neighbor to Nate Atwell and Danielle Mills Blake. I am organizing on behalf of the families so that they may have this time to grieve together and plan their next steps with less worry. Many of you have asked for more ways to support Isla Rose and Harper Elizabeth, so we have decided to set up a Go Fund Me page for the twin girls and their families.

A slightly edited post from Dionne Mills, Danielle's sister:

I'm writing on behalf of my sister and her family living in our community. My sister has newborn twins who will move into her home within the next few weeks. These premature identical twins have been at Maine Medical since their arrival on September 2nd, 2022, and are doing reasonably well. The baby girls are making strides in gaining the necessary weight to be discharged home.

The twin girls tragically lost their mother last week. This unexpected event has turned many lives upside down and has been unbearably heartbreaking for family, friends and the Mid-Coast communities where we live. Hopefully, they will be discharged from the hospital within the next two weeks, when they will head home with their father and Danielle Mills Blake. This family has the next week or two to prepare for the arrival of premature twins, with only two matching car seats in their possession. We are calling on our community to help them quickly prepare. We are hoping to find everything from furniture to essentials such as hypoallergenic, unscented diapers and wipes, and formula suitable for premature babies.

We are anxiously waiting for the day the girls can come home. Words cannot express the gratitude and love felt overflowing from our response so far to get essential items quickly donated to prepare for the girl's arrival with such short notice and under such tragic circumstances.

We initially did not want to pursue a Go Fund Me, simply hoping to lean on our community to help us find gently used sets of cribs and basic needs for the twin girls' first few weeks and months at home. In response to the overwhelming desire to further help Isla and Harper and their family, we have determined that financial assistance with medical bills for the girls, both now and in the coming months/years, is the best way to continue support for them. They have had very little time to prepare, travel nearly daily to Portland and back, and are tragically planning the memorial service of the mother of Isla Rose and Haper Elizabeth, Alyssa Carey.

Please respect the grieving and privacy of these families through this unimaginable time. We've only moved so quickly with requests for donations and fundraising to prepare a place for the girls to call home when they are healthy enough to travel. We waited to launch the Go Fund Me until Alyssa's passing was made public in the news via her Facebook page. She leaves behind her twin girls and their 5-year-old older sister. Three daughters, this community is blessed to love and support.

Words cannot express our gratitude for your prayers, love, and overwhelming support. Anything you can give to support Alyssa Carey, her beautiful girls, and Isla and Harper's future is indescribably appreciated.

Thank you,

Hannah, the next-door neighbor.
