My grandmother’s journey over the past month has been incredibly difficult for our entire family. What started as a routine root canal quickly turned into a life-threatening situation when she developed an abscess that spread bacteria to her organs, causing her to go septic. After a couple of weeks in the ICU, several procedures, and strong antibiotics, we were hopeful as she began to show signs of improvement. Unfortunately, she then aspirated, which set her back to square one. Doctors discovered an esophageal tear, and she had to undergo another surgery.

 Throughout this ordeal, my aunt and father—her children—have been by her side every single day at Riverside Community Hospital, an hour away from our home in the High Desert. They have barely been able to work, making sure my grandmother receives the care and attention she needs. The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming, with medical bills piling up and lost wages adding to the stress.

 Thankfully, she is now showing signs of improvement again, and we are hopeful that she will only have a couple more weeks in the hospital before beginning her recovery at home. I am setting up this GoFundMe to help cover the mounting medical expenses, lost income for my grandmother, aunt, and father, and the ongoing costs of her hospital stay, physical therapy, and daily travel.
