Jenry Diaz just started as a Mentor for Aaron’s Presents two weeks ago and will be helping kids in Lawrence carry out ideas they have that help others. We are thrilled to have her on our team this year but then heard yesterday that her mom, Gina Diaz, had her apartment burn completely on Sunday, September 16, after the other gas explosions and fires in the area had been put out. She lost everything, as you can see from the picture.
Gina is a single 55 year old who was born in the Dominican Republic and has lived in the US for 38 years. She worked as a trainer at 3M in Methuen for over 10 years. She had to take early retirement when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is a breast cancer survivor who is disabled due to side affects from her cancer treatments and cannot walk or stand for long. She is on a set income so she doesn't have extra money for incurred expenses due to the fire. She is currently allowed a 10-day hotel stay but must pay for it upfront before getting reimbursed by her insurance company!
Her home was the central meeting place for her 3 children and 5 grandchildren, and now she has to start over completely with not even any of her clothes or shoes salvaged from the fire.
We know that many of you have given generously to victims of recent events and fires, but if you do have the ability to give more, please consider helping Gina. She and her family are so resilient, but they do need help and especially since she is now part of the Aaron’s Presents family, I want to do everything I can to help her and Jenry through this devastating loss!
