Support for Gemma & Family

In July 2016, Gemma noticed something was not right with her leg. She developed a very noticeable limp, and her foot started going numb. She saw several local doctors, and all of them told her it must be a back issue. She asked her primary care doctor to send referrals to specialists. Gemma had one appointment left at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. It was mid-February 2017, and she was skeptical it would be like every other doctor visit. One appointment turned into a nine hour day. They found a six centimeter tumor growing behind Gemma's knee.

The following weeks involved multiple tests. A large biopsy was done. Then, in March, Gemma was told that she has Ewing's Sarcoma. Many more tests and painful procedures were done.... and on Wednesday, March 15th, Gemma and her family were told that her cancer had metastasized. This drastically changed everything. Gemma's friends and family threw her a benefit on Memorial Day weekend which helped tremendously with groceries, gas to drive to and from St. Louis, medical bills, and numerous other expenses.

Gemma now faces a new insurance deductible for 2018. On top of that, this past Saturday (October 21st), she was rushed by ambulance to be hospitalized for a septic shoulder joint. She already uses 25 hours leave without pay to stretch out leave time that has been donated to her. This extra income will allow Gemma to spend more time with her family and allow her to focus on healing, so she can get back to her normal life.

This GoFundMe page is being created by a community of family and friends that care deeply for Gemma and her family. The proceeds will go directly to the family to help with medical expenses and everyday expenses.
