<div>My father immigrated from Egypt to the United States in the 1960s in search of a better life. I was born in Egypt and came to America with him when I was just five years old. From that moment on, it was always just the two of us. He was not only my father , he was my entire family, my best friend, and the reason I am who I am today.

<div>As he grew older, my father developed serious medical conditions, including dementia and other medical conditions. Because of this, I made the decision to work only part-time so I could spend the rest of my time caring for him. Taking care of my father was never a burden; it was my responsibility, my duty, and my honor. Everything I did was for him.

<div>On the night of January 31st, around 10:00 PM, my life changed forever. I received a call from my neighbors telling me to rush home immediately. When I arrived, my house was completely engulfed in flames. My father was trapped inside. He did not survive.

<div>In a matter of minutes, I lost my father in the most tragic way imaginable.
</div>

<div>What breaks my heart the most is how completely everything was taken from me. I lost my father, my home, and every possession I had. I’m standing in the world with no immediate family to turn to—only a few close friends and a part‑time job keeping me afloat. I’m homeless right now, without transportation, trying to survive day by day while grieving the loss of the only family I ever truly had. It’s a kind of loneliness and exhaustion that’s hard to put into words, but it’s my reality.
