Support for Fran's Recovery

This will probably not come as a surprise to you, but my mom is one tough cookie. She raised me as a single mom, put me through school, held down a mortgage, multiple jobs, all the while standing up for others and bringing kindness, warmth, and humor to those around her.

What may come to you as a surprise however, is that she spent the Fourth of July listening to fireworks from a hospital bed. Rushing to the emergency room after being unable to breathe, my mom was admitted into the cardiac intensive care unit, where she was treated over the next 6 days. It was determined that she had been suffering from congestive heart failure - a terrifying name for a manageable but chronic disease. She would need consistent monitoring over the next week to ensure her ticker would keep on ticking. The amazing care team at Fairview Hospital saved my mom from a potentially life-threatening situation. She is now back to her sassy, lovable, and determined self, but is still being constantly monitored by her team of doctors.

That being said, while world-class, a six night stint at the Cleveland Clinic is one expensive staycation. On-call cardiologists, EKGs, step-down unit dinners and breakfasts in bed, procedures whose names are unpronounceable, do not run cheap.

...which is why I'm reaching out to you today. While my mom has health insurance, as the average American knows, it is never really enough to cover astronomical hospital bills, deductibles, out of pocket maximums, lifestyle changes, etc.

Now, my tough as nails mom isn’t too keen on asking for help. Which is why this is probably the first time you’re learning about her health issues. She wants to be able to take care of this on her own.

We all do. If we all had the capacity to take care of ourselves financially and emotionally, we would. But as I say to you and as I’ve said to her, no (wo)man is an island. It takes a village to raise a child, but adults need that village, too.

We have been so unbelievably fortunate to have that village. Throughout our lives we have been lifted up and held by the angels in our lives and we do not discount those times for anything.

I am reaching out to you today in the hopes that you can contribute to my mom’s recovery by alleviating some of the financial stress from her hospital stay. If you can spare any funds, we would be forever grateful. If you have any questions about my mom, please reach out directly to me and I am happy to relay any messages to her.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and considering donating to my mom’s recovery. Your support means more to us than you could ever imagine.

Cliffnotes: My mom went into the hospital in early July for heart issues and is now on the road to recovery. We are kindly asking for contributions to help alleviate some of the financial burden from a lengthy stay in the ICU.
