Our father, Derek, is one of the best men we know.
He is a loving father to us, his two daughters, Maegyn and Brooke.
And has been married to our mom for 33 years.
Two years ago he was diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a rare form of cancer in the eye, and our world ground to a halt. We moved forward with treatment and everything looked good. Our dad started feeling better and returned to work and his hobbies.
But a week ago everything changed. Our dad began to experience unusual symptoms and after being admitted to the hospital, it was quickly determined that despite removing the cancer two years ago and being monitored regularly since then, the cancer had metastasized in his liver and was growing rapidly.
Now our parents are fighting a scary, exhausting, and expensive uphill battle.
The hospital visit alone cost them thousands of dollars and the only option for treatment moving forward is immunotherapy. Because immonotherapy has not been approved to treat this type of cancer, his treatment will be considered experimental and insurance is unlikely to cover it.
The doctor told us that each dose can cost anywhere from $40,000-50,000.
With your help we can help ease their financial burden as they put everything on hold and literally fight for our dad's life.
