Captain Megen Cummings, DVM is the most kind, compassionate, and empathetic human I have ever personally met in my entire life. She had a rough start in life but was determined to make something of herself. Her passion and determination got her through her undergraduate degree, Master’s degree, and veterinary school. In order to help with the overwhelming debt, she joined the Army and entered as a Captain. She is solely responsible for numerous military working dogs, large animals, and personal military pets. Being a veterinarian, she is always putting her patients, clients, and personal life on hold in order to best care for them. She is the epitome of a selfless human being.
Unfortunately, right now her body is failing her. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease last year and has been on medications that are not easy for a physically and mentally healthy lifestyle. She was in and out of hospitals for almost a year attempting to diagnose this. Now, she has an aggressive rash that has progressed to covering her entire body. The best guess at this time is hand, foot, and mouth disease. She has been hospitalized and is in isolation. An array of testing is still on going to help get an answer and how to best treat her, if this is possible besides supportive care.
Megen was stationed across the country from her family and friends in California. Her mother desperately wants to get to her, not knowing the sequela of this disease and what the outcome will be. We are all praying Megen will make it through this however the truth is we do not know at this point. She is in extreme pain even on medication, she is alone, and scared. Her mother should be there with her. Due to finances, this is not possible. Please help us get Megen’s mother to her. She is almost 70 years old and works almost 18 hours a day taking care of her farm animals in New Jersey. She is the sole provider of these animals and unfortunately cannot just get up and leave them. As you can see, our love of animals runs deep. Your generous donations will cover her flight, transportation, and hotel costs while in California, as well as costs of covering the care for her animals while she is gone. Any funding raised above the asking will of course be donated to a rescue organization for animals.
