Support for Carrie, Gus, Evie, Cate and Grace

Christopher Lonis was an incredible husband, father, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He was a victim of a fatal auto accident on April 21, 2022, leaving behind his loving wife, Carrie, and four young children, Gus (10), Evie (8), Cate (8) and Grace (7). Chris was one of the best. His strong Catholic faith and belief in God guided him through life. He cared deeply for everyone he knew and was unbelievably generous and kind. Chris’ infectious laugh could make anyone smile. Chris enjoyed going up to his family’s lakehouse and spending relaxing days at the beach with Carrie and the kids. He loved gardening, baking, bowling and was a wine enthusiast, often bringing multiple bottles to parties. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team. He will be remembered for his bedtime routine with the kids and for watching his girls do gymnastics.

 

Chris was passionate about his career. He began his career at Lake County Juvenile Court Services, where he worked for almost six years before becoming a federal law enforcement officer. He served for close to 20 years as a U.S. Pretrial Services and Probation Officer for the Northern District of Illinois. Chris truly enjoyed all aspects of the law enforcement field, especially the firearms and safety programs. Chris spent so much time thinking about ways to help people, including bringing diapers to clients who couldn’t afford them. As a coworker, he was always known for how social he was and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved to share an interesting story about a case or eat a good lunch in the field.  Jonathan met Chris on his first day at his U.S. Pretrial Services internship.  We became close with Chris and Carrie over the years, and they became like family to us.  

 

There are no words to describe the void we all feel with this loss. We know he is watching down on all of us, reunited with his parents once again.
