As most of you know, our 23 year old son Callum was stabbed on a Christmas night out with his friends on the 23rd of December, this was a unprovoked attack by a group of lads who were just out looking for trouble. He needed emergency bowel surgery to stop internal bleeding and was in hospital for five days following the surgery.
He has been told by the surgeon that he cannot return to work for 6-8 weeks and although his company have been really understanding about this, unfortunately they do not offer sick pay. This means Callum has to claim statutory sick pay which nowhere near covers his lost wages. He has his first baby due in February and his partner has just gone on maternity leave, so it is down to Callum to pay the bills and support his family.
He has applied to the Criminal Compensation Authority but they have said his claim will take 12-18 months to process, which won’t help his situation at present. We, as his parents will support him as much as we can but with our own mortgage and bills to pay, there is only so much we can do.
Callum is recovering well from the surgery but is now suffering psychological effects of the incident, unable to sleep, very low in mood. He is also upset and frustrated because the perpetrators have not yet been caught and he is getting stressed about how he will manage financially.
We thought that if we could try and raise some money to help him out, it would ease some of the pressure for him. We really didn’t want to go down this route but can’t see any other way. We are not asking for large amounts of money off anybody, his original post regarding the stabbing reached nearly 5000 people, so if only half of these people donated £1 each that would be a massive help to Callum and his family.
