<div>Two years ago, at 31, Bubby experienced an episode of stroke-like symptoms in his right hand. After CTs and meeting with neurologists, he was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, a rare and progressive condition that narrows blood vessels in the brain, reducing flow and increasing his stroke risk. At that time, he and his doctors chose to monitor his symptoms and mitigate risk factors.

<div>Almost a year ago, Bubby started developing a range of symptoms including nerve problems and balance issues that could overlap with Moyamoya but didn't quite fit the clinical picture. After months of appointments, tests, and specialists, he was finally diagnosed with two severely herniated discs and underwent spinal surgery with his team of specialists in Buffalo on June 24th to remove a vertebra and the two problematic discs. Thankfully, that surgery was a success and his symptoms greatly improved.

<div>However, all of those scans also showed that his Moyamoya disease had progressed, and even that he'd had another stroke that had gone undetected. It has been determined that he now needs surgery to create new blood flow and lower his risk of future strokes.

<div>On September 22nd, Bubby and his wife Abby will again travel to Buffalo General where he will have indirect bypass, a major brain surgery, starting on his left side with plans to operate on his right side sometime in the future. Recovery starts with 3-4 nights in the hospital, followed by a minimum of four weeks off from working and driving, during which Abby will also be out of work to help him.
