My name is Bonnie and I am crowd-funding to help raise funds to gain further financial support to assist with payment of my many medical expenses and equipment that is required to support me in continuing to live independently in my home with my partner Danny.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma in March of 2013. Following my diagnosis I had very intense and rigorous treatments which included enduring 2 rounds of high-level radiation and 2 rounds of chemotherapy. Since this time I have suffered the debilitating effects from the treatment that was received including the development of a Mega Colon which resulted in having an ileostomy procedure that has led to further complications. As well, my kidneys were damaged and now also have nephrostomy tubes inserted and now have severe neuropathy in both legs that have contributed to reduced mobility and has left me in a wheelchair for the majority of my day. I am currently receiving homecare which assists with some support of my medical needs, but does not cover everything and has left myself and spouse who also has his own health challenges in considerable financial distress.
The raising of funds will assist in the purchase of additional medical expenses not currently covered such as my ongoing ostomy supplies, prescription/custom leg braces, a hospital bed with roho mattress and transportation costs to attend various medical appointments. My homecare team is currently covering these expenses, however, the rental period for these items will be ending soon and I worry how I will carry on without these important pieces of equipment.
I consider myself a hard-working, charitable, animal-lover. I am a mother and a grandmother and a fighter. I am thankful to the many friends and family that have supported me along the way in my medical journey.
