Banks St. fire victims Recovery

Donation protected
On Monday, Jan 15 four ladies who love and take care of each other were burned out of their collective house on Banks St.

The cause of fire is currently unknown but likely due to the house's wiring not being up to code. One of us tragically lost a cat and is about to start grad school, one is imminently losing her income and two are unemployed. The four of us-- Julie, Nicole, Nyx and MJ-- are active in our artistic and activist communities, love our neighbors, and have been agitating against income, environmental, and housing inequality in New Orleans.

We are all in shock and reeling from this.  We lost Nicole's beloved cat Lil Boy, most of our belongings, and now have to start again.

Currently our friend network has been able to provide housing, food, and some donated clothing, which is wonderful. Sadly, we'll need more... rides, company, meals, underwear, and money.  We're trying to find a new house and will have to pay for a rental deposit, furniture, computers, bedding, clothes, electronics, kitchen supplies and grad school books. We are also looking for a car to have or borrow for anywhere from a week to a few months, since we lost both of ours in the August flood.

It's not pleasant to beg, to be in this position, but we really need your help-- and are very grateful for it.

Thank you so much.

xoxo
