Support for baby Levi & his family

Donation protected
On Thursday, November 14 our dear friend Rebecca and her partner Francis were two parents enjoying their perfect 3 week old newborn boy, Levi. He started to feel slightly warm Thursday night, but was still his normal laughing, smiling, and happy self. However, Rebecca’s maternal instincts kicked in and after checking his temperature and seeing 100.7, she rushed him to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.

After a spinal tap and a blood work up, it was determined that Levi has late onset Group B Strep, meningitis, sepsis, and pneumonia.  His health deteriorated from there very quickly. The next night he spiked a 104 temperature and began gasping for air and was taken into ICU where he was then intubated. His heart rate and oxygen levels bounce back and forth to dangerous numbers which has been a completely terrifying experience for his parents. Levi has endured two spinal taps, EEGs, several hour long attempts to insert IVs, intubation, ultrasounds, chest XRays, with MRIs and more spinal taps and bloodwork in his future. No baby should have to start their life this way. Discussion of his chances of survival are not yet spoken of because of his critical nature.

Levi has also shown some signs of potential brain damage. Everyone is praying Levi pulls through this and also doesn’t suffer any effects towards his development, but only time will tell and right now they are focused on his survival. Francis and Rebecca haven’t left his bedside in a week and don’t plan to until he hopefully goes home.

Rebecca, a business and family and consumer sciences teacher at William Floyd Middle School, is unable to return to work after an already unpaid maternity leave. She is also going to lose her health benefits.

Francis, executive chef at Prime Restaurant in Huntington has missed many days of work and will miss many more. Expenses are already piling up, especially with childcare costs for their other two children, three year old Blake and five year old Bay now that Rebecca isn’t home with them.

Right now they should not have to worry about how they will pay for simple things like their bills and childcare.

We’re asking for help to offset some of the financial burden this has placed on the family and give them one less thing to worry about.
