Support for Afghans Resettled to NoVA
Dear friends, colleagues, and acquaintances,
The Kagys, of Arlington, VA, are a family that believes in the principle of tikun olam, repairing the world by acting constructively and beneficially. We are collecting donations to transfer to Lutheran Social Services (LSS) National Capital Area's Afghan Allies program to resettle Afghan refugees in the greater Washington DC area. In 2020, LSS NCA resettled approximately 500 clients in the Northern Virginia Area - by the end of September 2021 they will have already served more than 1,000. As you can imagine, this doubling of need strains the limited resources of a NGO like LSS.
As part of this effort, we are requesting donations that will go to help Afghan families who are being resettled in the high-cost Northern Virginia area. We are requesting monetary donations that will enable resettled families to purchase new items, such as mattresses, linens, personal care items, school supplies, clothing, rent and food and to fill in gaps in in-kind donations that have already received.
We will withdraw any funds donated through this campaign every two weeks, and donate it via the https://lssnca.org/take_action/donate.html portal to the National Capital Area LSS to provide direct support to resettled families in Northern Virginia.
We will never learn the identities of those who receive the help, but we know they will be grateful, and our help will allow them to be more in control of their lives and feel less vulnerable in this tenuous time.
