MEDICAL FUND FOR ADDIE MAE—CHILD BURN SURVIVOR

MEDICAL FUND FOR ADDIE MAE—CHILD BURN SURVIVOR

Halloween should be a day of delight for every child, and that was certainly the plan for sweet Addie Mae Davis. At 2 years old, it was supposed to be her first real trick-or-treating experience; and Momma Bethany and Daddy Jeremiah were over the moon to see their little girl on this big night.

Tragically, the evening took a turn that changed their lives forever. Addie Mae suffered severe burns across her face and body (1st, 2nd and 3rd degree) when a kitchen appliance malfunctioned. She has been in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit ever since--undergoing emotionally and physically exhausting treatments including painful daily debridement at VCU's Burn unit in Richmond, Virginia. As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly traumatic time in this young family’s life.

So why the GoFundMe? Under normal circumstances, the Davis family would just be asking for your prayers for little Addie Mae. But they currently have no health insurance and need your financial help to weather this storm. Jeremiah’s employment insures the family; but he recently changed jobs, and Addie Mae’s injury occurred exactly in the gap between the end of his last coverage and the start of his new.  Knowing that they had no coverage and would be paying out-of-pocket for Addie Mae’s medical care, Bethany refused treatment for her own burns to try to minimize the costs. This is a mom and a dad who always put their little girl first and who would never ask for help, so we are asking for them. They are facing a mountain of medical debt on top of the trauma they have been through, and they have a long road of recovery to travel ahead.

So many family and friends love our precious Addie Mae and have asked, “how can we help?” This fund is how. Every penny will go toward defraying the cost of her current and ongoing medical treatment. Our hope is that this tragic chapter in Addie Mae, Bethany, and Jeremiah’s life will be a distant memory sometime soon. In the meantime, please keep praying, give what you can, and—please, please--share Addie Mae’s story. Many hands make light work, and we need as many helping hands and generous hearts as we can to get through this.

So please help us help them.... we want this memory to fade away...

and we want this little Angel back to enjoying life at its fullest.

Here is a post from Bethany:

"What I would do to go back in time and have a normal day with my Addie Mae. I would buy the biggest bag of carrots and let her wander around and feed every single horse in the stable as many carrots as she wants. I would let her jump on the trampoline naked and noisily wrestle the dog and open up every single container of play dough we own. I would be so thankful for the fact that she never stops moving or running or jumping or climbing or rolling or exploring. I wouldn’t huff when I find her perched on a bar stool stealing fruit snacks. I wouldn’t roll my eyes when she pulls every single pillow of the couch right after I put them back up. I would marvel and appreciate these moments because these moments mean I have a happy, healthy, pain free baby girl. I would just follow her around and soak in her joy and her light and her sweetest heart.

Seeing your baby hurting, and frustrated and hearing your child whimper “mommy... my boo boo ouchy hurts” or “mommy help” is a feeling that I can’t even begin to explain. I have felt so hurt and sad that my body aches. I’ve looked over at Jeremiah with tears in my eyes and told him I wish I could have slowed down time and jumped in front of her. I want to take all the pain and hurt and frustration so she could just continue to be a shining light.

She hasn’t left the bed or my lap since she went trick or treating down the hall Friday. She has barely moved which is the biggest indicator of how much pain she is in. We will be here at least for 3 more days but it just depends on her body reacts to the debridements. They switched her pain medication this afternoon and we got back some of the Addie Mae we know and love. She was chatting up a storm with J and I and had the biggest smile on her face when ChildLife brought her a new babydoll. Addie has associated the nurses and doctors with being poked and bothered so she is getting pretty good at putting up a fight. She can wiggle off pulse ox’s and rip off electrodes in record times. She is getting a reputation for her rapid and deadly sneak attack kicks that have landed on a few nurses faces. The staff are impressed by her pure devotion to being so completely stubborn.

Jeremiah Davis and I have felt the love and support from our village. Whenever I lose it I come to the comments of the posts and read about all the people praying and thinking about Addie and cry happy tears.
We appreciate the continued prayers and thoughts of healing energy and ask for everyone to continue these as Addie still has multiple painful procedures scheduled."

Many blessings on you all,

Scott & Angela!
