<div>This has been a year of enormous strain for our community. With the closure of asylum pathways at the U.S.–Mexico border and major cuts to humanitarian funding, we’ve had to stretch every resource to continue supporting families in our shelter. Through all of this, food justice remains at the core of our work. As more families arrive from southern Mexico, Haiti, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Morocco, Central America, and beyond, one of our biggest needs is simply keeping our shelter’s kitchen stocked. This Holiday Season, we’re asking for your support to help us uphold food justice by keeping daily, nutritious meals available to every family.

<div>2025 has brought challenges we have never experienced at this scale.
</div>
<div>The effective closure of the U.S. asylum system has stranded thousands of families in Tijuana for the long term—without legal protection, support networks, or access to basic services. At the same time, humanitarian funding has been drastically reduced, forcing many migrant-serving organizations to scale back their services. Espacio Migrante has felt this directly: our Legal Clinic was forced to shut down, and our operating budget for essentials, including food, has decreased significantly.

<div>In our shelter, food is not an afterthought. It is one of the first forms of stability families experience after months or years of displacement. Many arrive with infants, elders, pregnant women, or people with chronic health conditions—people for whom consistent, nutritious meals are essential to healing. Food justice at Espacio Migrante means access to home-cooked meals, culturally meaningful ingredients, and menus built by shelter families themselves. It means communal cooking that rebuilds routine and connection. It means a stable, well-stocked kitchen offering consistency when everything else in life has been uncertain. And it also means providing prepared food and food stamp cards to migrants who participate in our programs, extending food security beyond the shelter and into the broader community.

<div>Este ha sido un año de enorme presión para nuestra comunidad. Con el cierre de las vías de asilo en la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos y los importantes recortes a la financiación humanitaria, hemos tenido que agotar todos los recursos para seguir apoyando a las familias en nuestro albergue. Durante todo este tiempo, la justicia alimentaria sigue siendo la base de nuestro trabajo. A medida que llegan más familias del sur de México, Haití, Afganistán, Venezuela, Marruecos, Centroamérica y otros lugares, una de nuestras mayores necesidades es simplemente mantener abastecida la cocina de nuestro albergue. Esta temporada navideña, solicitamos su apoyo para ayudarnos a defender la justicia alimentaria, ofreciendo comidas diarias y nutritivas a todas las familias.

<div>El 2025 ha traído desafíos que nunca antes habíamos experimentado a esta escala.

<div>El cierre efectivo del sistema de asilo estadounidense ha dejado varadas a miles de familias en Tijuana a largo plazo, sin protección legal, redes de apoyo ni acceso a servicios básicos. Al mismo tiempo, la financiación humanitaria se ha reducido drásticamente, lo que ha obligado a muchas organizaciones que atienden a migrantes a reducir sus servicios. Espacio Migrante lo ha sentido directamente: nuestra Clínica Legal se vio obligada a cerrar, y nuestro presupuesto operativo para artículos esenciales, incluyendo alimentos, ha disminuido significativamente.

<div>En nuestro albergue, la comida no es una cuestión secundaria. Es una de las primeras formas de estabilidad que experimentan las familias después de meses o años de desplazamiento. Muchos llegan con bebés, personas mayores, mujeres embarazadas o personas con enfermedades crónicas; personas para quienes una alimentación nutritiva y constante es esencial para su recuperación. La justicia alimentaria en Espacio Migrante significa acceso a comidas caseras, ingredientes con significado cultural y menús elaborados por las propias familias del albergue. Significa cocinar en comunidad para reconstruir la rutina y la conexión. Significa una cocina estable y bien surtida que ofrece consistencia cuando todo lo demás en la vida ha sido incierto. Y también significa proporcionar alimentos preparados y tarjetas de cupones de alimentos a las personas migrantes que participan en nuestros programas, extendiendo la seguridad alimentaria más allá del albergue y a la comunidad en general.
