Hello, my name is Felicia. I live in Florida. I'm an educator with over 30 years of experience. Recently, my coworkers and I lost our jobs abruptly with no pay in sight. We are missing 3 months of payments and are facing late fees. We are facing financial hardship; we have missed rent payments for two months, car payments, and cell phone bills. Our children have lost out on extracurricular activities and sports at their schools because, unfortunately, we're unable to pay for these necessities due to the recent loss of our jobs. The school closed its doors abruptly, not once, but twice, leaving us scrambling to figure out how we would pay our bills.
At this point, I have lost my apartment, my car has been repossessed, and my phone bill is on extended payment. I have other outstanding loans that I'm obligated to pay back because I have to keep using payday loans to cover daily expenses like food, gas, and other personal items. We have reached out to the owner of our school, but they have yet to give us any information concerning our pay or if we're going to be paid at all.
I'm reaching out to the community because there is nowhere else to go. We are trying to take legal action, but we don't know where we stand since the school doors are now closed indefinitely.
