<div><strong>F. and O.</strong> are a young couple originally from Venezuela who have found themselves connected to Beacon Hill in tragic ways.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On the afternoon of August 27, 2026, O. was taken by ICE on Beacon Hill (where Beacon Ave turns into Holgate). The arrest was extremely violent; he was severely beaten by ICE agents. As a result of this brutality, O. has had to endure constant physical pain during his incarceration in the NWDC. Despite his obvious injuries and distress, he was denied medical treatment for 14 days.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>O. had been jailed in his home country of Venezuela for 7 years following corrupt government officials disbanding the antidrug enforcement troupe that O. served in within the National Guard. His troupe got in a confrontation with drug runners that were receiving weapons and funds from the Venezuelan government to traffic drugs and as a result of the conflict O. was imprisoned for 7 years.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After being released he came to the U.S. "looking for liberty, but finding the opposite." He has never missed a court date. He has filed everything needed by the courts in a timely manner. He has notified ICE when he has moved to another area within the country. He obtained his work permit and saved money to afford an attorney for his asylum case.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>And as a result of this detention, and a death in his family, O. is now without the money needed to hire an attorney for his asylum claim. According to Dr. Austin Kocher of Relevant Research (July 2026), "Immigrants facing deportation in court without an attorney were ordered removed in 78% of all completed cases from 2016-2025 compared to just 25% of people with an attorney."
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since O. was taken, F. has been left to face this scary and painful situation on her own. She is only 21. O. was the primary breadwinner, and without that income, F. was evicted from their home at the end of September. They lost all of their belongings and F. found herself unhoused on Beacon Hill.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>These two are living through a devastating separation and lack of stable housing, mistreatment in the NWDC, all while also trying to keep up with the legal fight in their asylum cases.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Our solidarity can make a real difference.</strong> Donations will help F. find housing, cover her basic needs, and continue the legal fight to secure O.'s release. His next hearing is scheduled for October 20, 2026 so he needs to find a lawyer as soon as possible.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are working with members of the National Lawyers Guild at Seattle University School of Law to seek legal support. O's asylum case has strong grounds and returning O. to Venezuela would put him in serious danger.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>These needs will not disappear overnight. That is why ongoing support can make a significant difference as F. works to regain stability and we fight for O.'s release. If you are able, please consider making a monthly donation to provide more consistent and predictable support. One-time donations are also deeply appreciated and will be a tremendous help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>F. and O. came to the United States legally to seek asylum because remaining in their home country posed a danger to them. Now, they find themselves enduring a nightmare that has completely changed their lives.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a community, we can come together to support this beloved couple and show F. and O. that they are not alone. Let’s make them feel the strength and solidarity of our community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>O. asked the law students: "why do prisons in America operate like this?"
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>They had to inform him that, according to the American government, he was not in "prison."
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>O. laughed and said: "Oh, so I'm free to go?"
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>They had to tell him no.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>"Then I am in prison."
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you know an immigration attorney who may be available to help with O.'s case, please contact us. Any referral or recommendation could be a tremendous help at this urgent time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you have extra furniture and household items that you would like to share with them as they rebuild from this harrowing ordeal, please get in touch.

<div>_____________
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>O. se rio y respondió:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>«Ah, entonces, ¿soy libre de irme?».
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Tuvieron que decirle que no.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>«Entonces estoy en una cárcel».
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
