<div>Our son Evan and his fiancée Gabby bought their first home on the North Shore of Oahu less than one year ago. They were building something beautiful — a life, a future, an engagement to celebrate.

<div>Evan is an Ocean Safety Officer on the North Shore and is pursuing his Master's degree in Emergency Management. Gabby is an ICU nurse. Every single day, these two show up for their community — pulling people from dangerous surf, keeping critically ill patients alive, preparing for the kind of disasters that others run from.

<div>Last week, disaster came for them. Not one — but two catastrophic flash floods struck the North Shore within a single week.

<div>The first flood tore through their home and property. True to who they are, they didn't hesitate. They got to work immediately, rebuilding with everything they had.  Before they could catch their breath, the second flood hit — and it was devastating.
</div>

<div>Water rose to chest level, destroying what little had just been rebuilt. Their retaining wall was swept away. Their tool shed, their tools, their patio, their entrance fence — gone. The full extent of structural damage to their home is still being assessed, but one thing is clear: they have lost nearly everything.

<div>And some of it can never be replaced.  A shell collection gathered over years of meaningful moments — washed away. Their surfboards and paddleboards — not just possessions, but their connection to the ocean that defines their life on the North Shore — gone.

<div>Evan and Gabby are the people the rest of us count on in our worst moments. They have never once asked for anything in return. 
</div>
