I’m sharing this to ask for support for my best friend’s baby girl Ely, who has been through more in 3 months than most do in a lifetime.

Just one day after Ely was born, she started having seizures. Doctors discovered a brain bleed, and she was rushed into emergency surgery. She pulled through like a little warrior, and we were all so relieved when she came home just a week later, happy and healthy.

For two precious months, life was about bonding as a family for Shelley and Josh, and trying to figure out what caused the bleed. But at the end of June, a follow-up MRI revealed something no parent should ever have to hear—Ely had developed an aggressive brain tumor. She had surgery right away to remove as much as possible, and again showed incredible strength.

The tumor is fast-growing, aggressive, and cancerous and can’t be fully removed without damaging healthy tissue, but thankfully, it has a rare mutation that responds to targeted therapy. This has given Ely a fighting chance.

Shelley, her partner, and Ely are now living in Memphis, TN for the next couple of months while she receives treatment at St. Jude’s. She’ll need ongoing care and frequent travel for treatment, and this has placed an enormous emotional and financial strain on their family.
