Support Elizabeth’s Recovery After Paralysis
Donation protected

Our family’s world changed forever just five days ago. My sister Elizabeth, a dedicated psychologist who has spent her career helping children with special needs, is now facing her own medical crisis. Last week, Elizabeth began experiencing sudden neck pain that quickly progressed to numbness and weakness in her arms. Within hours, she lost her ability to walk and was struggling to breathe. She was rushed to the hospital in New Orleans, where she was diagnosed with autoimmune transverse myelitis—a rare condition that left her paralyzed and dependent on a ventilator. She currently has no movement or sensation below her neck.
Elizabeth has always been the heart of her family and community. As a doctor of psychology, she has worked for Tulane University and South Central Louisiana Human Services Authority, dedicating her life to supporting children and young adults with autism. Her compassion and tireless advocacy have brought hope to countless families. She works as a contract employee and does not get paid if she cannot work, making this situation even more financially devastating. Now, as the primary breadwinner, her sudden paralysis has left her family in crisis. Elizabeth’s husband, David, is juggling work, caring for his own mother, and now supporting Elizabeth through this unimaginable challenge. The family is facing mounting ICU bills, an extended hospital stay, mortgage payments, home modifications for accessibility, medical equipment, in-home personal care, rehabilitation, and everyday household expenses. Immediate help is needed, as support from friends and the community is just beginning to arrive.
Elizabeth’s diagnosis is devastating, but there is hope. Many people with transverse myelitis have made remarkable recoveries. Donations will help cover the cost of occupational, speech, physical, and respiratory therapy, as well as neurological support. Our greatest hope is to see Elizabeth regain her independence and return to her life’s mission—helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Your support will make a real difference for Elizabeth and her family as they face this urgent and uncertain journey.
We thank you for your support, large or small, even a share helps us.
Thank you with so much gratitude,
