<div>We are reaching out to let you know that our sister was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
</div>

<div>On November 30, 2023, after feeling unwell on and off for a few days and fainting, she has been taken to a local hospital for tests. She was later transported to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg to confirm the diagnosis through a bone marrow biopsy. On December 1, Elina was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. Her treatment plan involves intense chemotherapy, as well as constant blood and platelets transfusions for the following 6-8 months. During this time, she is staying at Health Sciences Centre with a hope to be transferred to a local hospital where she will continue her treatment.

<div>Since Elina’s diagnosis, many people have reached out and have been asking for ways to support her and the family during this time. Any emotional or financial support is greatly appreciated as we navigate through this journey.

<div>Anything donated will go directly to support Elina, her medications, future recovery cost, travel expenses and will help relieve some financial stress in the months to come so that all the focus can be on Elina’s recovery. Unfortunately, a good portion of the medication is not covered by Manitoba Health Insurance which is why we come together as a family to ask our community for financial support. Every little bit goes a long way! If you're unable to donate, please, keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.

<div>What is APL? Acute Promyelotyc Leukaemia happens when promyelocytes don’t fully develop and become cancerous. APL is a very aggressive type of leukemia, which means it develops quickly and needs treatment straight away. APL is a very rare type of blood cancer. Statistically, it develops in around 2.2 people per million.
