Hi, my name is Thayne, I live in Wisconsin (US) and I'm fundraising to help a man and his family be able to eat and get the necessities they need.
In a quiet village tucked away in the heart of The Gambia life moves slowly marked by the rising and setting of the sun and the sound of children playing with handmade toys is where my mother my siblings and I live ……
Our home is small made of sunbaked bricks and a corrugated metal roof that rattles when the wind blows and when the rains come we place buckets under the leaks and pray that the water doesn’t flood the floor. Our village has no proper roads and during the rainy season it feels like we’re completely cut off from the rest of the world…..
My mother is the strongest woman I know as she wakes up before the sun often with an empty stomach just to make sure we have something to eat she farms a small plot of land growing groundnuts and a few vegetables but it is hardly enough. Sometimes she does laundry for neighbors or walks miles to the nearest town to sell firewood just to earn a few dalasis as every little bit helps…..
My siblings and I use to go to a local school when we can but buying books, uniforms or even paying the small school fees can be difficult and sometimes we miss classes just to help our mom with chores or walk long distances to fetch water and we dream of becoming teachers, doctors and engineers one day being able to change not only our family’s future but also help our community and village people ….
Despite the hardship we remain hopeful as we have love, faith and believe that with a little support things could change and a small act of kindness could mean food on our table, a roof that doesn’t leak or the chance to stay in school as we are not asking for much just a hand to help us rise and this is our story we’re sharing it not out of pity but with hope that someone somewhere might hear our voices and walk with us toward a brighter future.
