Support East LA Families Displaced by Fire

On September 16, 2020 more than 10 families lost their homes and all of their possessions in a massive blaze that burned the 1st and Rowan affordable housing project by the East LA Community Corporation. The fire displaced 22 adults and 8 children from their long-time homes. In addition, 3 small businesses were also severely damaged. The families impacted are currently either homeless or living in overcrowded conditions with friends and family. With COVID-19 still present, the families urgently need a home to weather the pandemic.
Compounding the hardship that the families are facing is the fact that all of their possessions - including important documents to prove their identities were lost. This loss of documents has made finding a new place to rent difficult. While the Red Cross did provide temporary housing support, the funds provided have exhausted. So far only 2 families have been able to find a place to live but under overcrowded conditions. In addition, the tenants are also in urgent need of basic necessities including clothing, food, medicine, and home appliances.
The majority of the tenants have called East LA their home for more than 10 years. It is their hope to be able to find a new place to live in their community. Please help them achieve this by helping raise $5,000 per family so that they can pay a first-month rent and deposit.
Eastside LEADS and InnerCity Struggle created this fundraising campaign in order to help all of the tenants find permanent housing as soon as possible. We ask for your support to help all of the impacted tenants! The funds raised will be split evenly among the displaced residential and commercial tenants per their collective decision. Our goal is to be able to support all of the tenants to return to their neighborhood via this fundraising campaign.
