Hey there, my name is Dylan and I live in a residential recovery home program. While living here, I have had the privilege of meeting an astounding amount of great men, who day in and day out put in the work to better themselves in anyway they can. This program is a step after rehabilitation, and includes men with a great amount self awareness and courage who commit themselves to at least a 90 day program to enhance their chances of a well informed and successful recovery. I cannot tell you enough how much of a gift being here with such an inspiring group of individuals has helped me on my own journey.
One of these individuals in particular is my roommate. He is a self admitted, strong willed, funny, intelligent, and determined person. He has a genuine hunger for his recovery, and I am glad I was lucky enough to get him as my roommate. Anything I have lacked, which was quite a bit when I got here myself, he has been gracious enough to help me with. Everything from laundry detergent to coffee.
One of the requirements of being in our program is paying a weekly fee schedule. Hiring around here has been tough for the newer guys, as many of the surrounding companies are on a hiring freeze until after the new year which is just around the corner. Not that that stopped my roommate from getting hired somewhere. He did right away, but so far the hours have been scarce due to the time of year. He is constantly applying and interviewing, and I know he will soon be blessed. But he needs a leg up, much in the way that many of us starting recovery, including myself, do.
I struggled with catching up on my fees myself when I got here, I showed up to the doors of our program with nothing. I have been BLESSED beyond COMPARE by my housemates who have clothed me and fed me, and am part of such a beautiful supportive family that has caught me up so I can continue the journey I started off right.
I want to be able to provide the same for my roommate, but do not have all of the money to be able to catch the amount up. I am surrounded by nothing but amazing people in my own support network, who I know would help me if I needed it. But this holiday season I am asking for your help in paying it forward to someone who not only needs it, but deserves it. He is truly a great dude who is always helping out others, and is trying more than his best to get this right.
Thank you in advance to anyone who read this far, and bigger thanks to anyone who donates. Have a wonderful, and safe holiday season!
