Support Dr. Lynette Danley's Urgent Needs

Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well in these times of distress and upheaval. I wanted to alert you to the needs of a dear friend and colleague, Dr. Lynette Danley. In addition to being an early member of the Critical Race Studies in Education Association, she has also worked with many of us in organizations like the American Educational Education Association (AERA), American Association of Higher Education (AASHE) and the National Association of Multicultural Education (NAME). Her work with Black women and girls has been instrumental in shaping Black girlhood studies in education. Over the past four years a series of health concerns (particularly multiple sclerosis and heart condition coupled with multiple surgeries) have created a situation where it has become exceptionally challenging for her to work. Considering her health concerns, she is also in a situation where her housing has been compromised. Originally, she was granted a housing voucher by her local municipality, but a new federal housing requirement does not let her use her voucher in an apartment building that has shared utilities. Because most apartments in the greater Chicagoland area have shared utilities, it is quite the challenge to find housing that does not have shared utilities that is also ADA compliant. Despite these challenges, Dr. Danley has been steadfast in her search for housing despite depleted sources of income. The funds raised in this GoFundMe effort will support Dr. Danley to secure housing and to apply for jobs to continue her work with Black women and girls. I know this time of year can be hard…anything you can contribute is DEEPLY appreciated!!!
