Hello friends, my name is Doreen Byamukama, and I live in Uganda, a mother of three children, taking care of 181 orphans and other vulnerable children, albinos; some of whom live with HIV/AIDS at an orphanage me and my husband Brian Byamukama started in 2013.

At the beginning of this year 2025, I had on and off sickness which prompted me to begin a series of tests that have led me to an overwhelming reality. I under went a mastectomy this September 2025 due to breast cancer. I am a high-risk, carrying the BRCA2 gene and having an extensive family history of the disease. My recent imaging signified a strong likelihood of cancer which is gradually affecting some of my organs. My doctors say that I may also need chemotherapy and radiation.

This sickness has made me to loose alot of weight which am not sure if I will gain again.

As I face this challenge, my biggest priority is my family and the orphanage. The upcoming months will bring expenses that are simply beyond what we can manage alone. I thank so much my friend who is more than a mother to me from America called Carly Sommerstein, her son, her husband, her friends like Rose and others for the huge financial support through this journey which has shrinked their pockets during these hard times of the Trump administration.

Why I Need Your Help

I have no health insurance, my husband is sick and out of work. I am responsible for 100% of all medical costs moving forward. In just the last nine months, I have already spent over $3,000 on scans and biopsies, and the surgeries, treatments, and now recovery will cost me at least $1,500 out of pocket. Additionally, i need chemotherapy and radiation.

I am doing everything I can to explore financial assistance, but so far, the options have been limited. This fundraiser will help ease the immense financial stress on my family and friends and allow me to focus on healing without taking on massive debt.
