Hello, thank you for your time. My name is Kelsey Wright. I am the daughter of Donald Closs Jr., or as maybe better known as “Don Don”. If you’ve had the pleasure to know my dad you’ll know why this means so much to us. He’s the backbone and pillar of our family and we have so many things yet to learn. So here’s my parents story..
They’ve been together since 1989. They lost their home of 30 years because the trailer park they owned their home in, was closed permanently. They bought a small 2 acre undeveloped piece of land. Both being so driven to survive the winter, they developed health issues. My dad’s health quickly deteriorated. The Christmas of 2022, both of my parents were hospitalized for pneumonia and through those lab results and a biopsy we learned that my dad has a type of leukemia called MDS (myelodyspastic syndrome). He was then given the wrong treatment plan and grew more ill over the next 6 months. So we knew we had to seek another opinion and we went to McLaren Karmanos Cancer Institute. This is where they diagnosed him with yet another type of cancer called MNS (myeloid neoplasm) and started a new treatment plan that would work best for these two types of leukemia. The new treatment plan was giving hope for a 10-15 year lifespan left, but now after 2 years, bloodwork is starting to show significant damage to my dad’s organs. So they went in for another biopsy, and through this one they discovered the damage to his bone marrow, which is now stage 3. That brings us to now.. My dad will now have to travel to Detroit from the Upper Peninsula, for his cancer treatments and while awaiting a bone marrow transplant donor match. He suffers with a lot of fatigue, skin rashes, insomnia, and extreme amounts of bone pain. We are doing our best to keep him comfortable while he goes through this process. We have accumulated a lot of expenses throughout this journey. Both of my parents are disabled and on a fixed income. We are hoping for donations towards gas cards, hotel stays, or any other costs we might face while my dad goes through his treatments. If all you can do is register to possibly save someone’s life, it would mean everything to us. Thank you for reading our story and we have appreciated every single person that inquired to help or said prayers!
