This amazing man is, Derrek. After a 12-hour hospital shift, he was riding home when he was thrown from his bike, suffering multiple broken ribs, displaced collarbone fractures, and road rash across his body. 

Emergency services rushed him to the hospital and now has extensive medical bills and has to take time off work to heal—expenses far beyond anything we could have prepared for.

Derrek has been working overtime for months, saving every penny after his old car finally gave out. With no other option, he's been biking over 20 miles to and from work for his long shifts. Now, after this devastating accident, all the funds he set aside for a safe and reliable car must go toward medical expenses instead. Moving him that much further from security.

Despite everything life has thrown at him—including past housing instability—Derrek has never let hardship dim his light. He remains an incredibly kind, hardworking, and uplifting member of our Sarasota community. Now, he needs our help.
