July 2nd, 2025 I got the phone call no mother wants...my son was in the ICU fighting for his life. Less than 24 hours prior, Dennis was a healthy active 49 year old. He went into GBMC for pneumonia with no serious health issues, was immediately sent to the ICU with a blood pressure of 295/190, and was discharged a week later with more diagnoses, prescriptions, and referrals for specialists than any one person should need. Dennis is now in stage 5 renal failure and needs a transplant. He has COPD. He has stage 4 hypertensive retinopathy that may reverse in time. He has cardiomegaly. He now sees 5 specialists and has appointments just about every day. He has a battle ahead to get healthy enough for transplant. He is on 11 different prescriptions. He will likely be going on dialysis several times a week until he is able to find and have his transplant. Until then, his health has become a full time job. He has filed for disability and Social Security has expedited his claim due to him being terminally ill. The earliest he can expect a decision is January. In the meantime, he does not have the resources to pay his bills, his copays, and his prescriptions. I am looking to help raise funds to get him through this battle.
