De Morgan Foundation

William and Evelyn De Morgan were artists who believed their art could create a better, more beautiful world for everyone, for ever. Evelyn used her beautiful paintings to publicise her feminist views and support the Suffrage Campaign, whilst her husband WIlliam believed in the transformative power of the handmade and creating for wellbeing.

The De Morgan Collection was formed by Evelyn's sister, Wilhelmina Stirling, to ensure that future generations could enjoy the stories of the paintings, the magical world of William De Morgan's fantasy animals, and the beauty of the artworks.

Today, the De Morgan Foundation, and independent charity with just one member of staff, cares for the artworks, exhibits them across the country, and provides an active online programme of events and engagement to ensure the artists' vision of a better, more beautiful world is realised.

Your donation goes directly towards the care of the collection, and our ongoing public and education programme, throughout the coronavirus museum closures, and once we reopen our museums.

The De Morgan Collection is full of surprises! Evelyn De  Morgan's paintings seem Pre-Raphaelite, but they are her feminist response to Spiritualism and war.

William De Morgan is best known as a potter, but did you know that he invented his own kilns and attended chemistry lectures in order to create beautiful lustre glazes?

The Foundation owns the largest collection in the world of opulent, jewellike paintings, and glistening ceramics and you can help us continue to share it once the pandemic is over.
