In March of 2019, Alan Dawson (father to 5, husband of 40 years, veteran, all-around good guy) had a terrible accident that forever changed his life. Alan was the healthiest 76-year-old, never was sick, and had no preexisting conditions. In a freak accident, he fell multiple flights of wooden stairs in the Bangkok home and suffered a traumatic brain injury and other bodily injuries.
He was rushed to the hospital and stayed for over 2 months, as a foreigner in Bangkok Alan couldn't access discounted or free medical care, and the bill ballooned to over 3 million baht (close to 99,000 U.S. dollars). Alan's children scraped up what they could but didn't make a dent. With the incredibly generous support from Alan's sister-in-law who gave up her entire retirement fund, the bills were paid and Alan returned home where his wife Took, care of him 24 hours a day and Alan made a miraculous recovery.
From that day until today, Alan can no longer work, and he and Took live solely on his social security check and generous contributions from their children.
On November 27th, the injuries reared its ugly head and Alan suffered several life-threatening seizures, he was rushed to the hospital, and currently, doctors do not know a prognosis. Due to his traumatic brain injury sustained in the first accident, they fear his "brain is bleeding".
Now, the hospital bills are starting to pile up currently inching close to $15,000 with no end in sight. With no family members who can assist with the entirety of a looming bill, and a very real fear of funeral cost, and Took being left without income we humbly ask for your help.
The Dawson family are private and very prideful, but they are learning quickly the power of vulnerability and community love.
