Dawn Spagnolo is my sweet and caring mother who tragically suffered multiple strokes just days before Christmas. I would like to immediately take some of the financial burden off my mom’s husband Ralph so they can continue to focus on her recovery. I appreciate any donations you can give to help cover my mom’s medical bills as they are piling up and the modifications they will need to make to their home.
On December 18, 2018 Dawn suffered two strokes. This required three separate brain surgeries in less than 6 weeks, a heart operation, and they had to remove a large portion of her skull due to brain swelling.
She is also scheduled to get a pacemaker within a month. We are staying positive but there is a chance she will never again use the left side of her body making it hard for her to do the things she enjoys including golfing, fishing, and cooking. This is the saddest part and the thing that makes me tear up just typing it.
Dawn’s favorite thing to do in the world is help people. Even when I was little she was taking in family and friends who needed a place to stay until they got back on their feet. There were at least 11 people she graciously let stay at our home and would cook for every night. She has also been an active volunteer for the veterans at the VFW and Fort Snelling and participates in the Susan B Coleman Race for the Cure event each year. Whenever you walked into their home, she would greet you with a hug and ask if you were hungry or wanted something to drink. Every single time.
My mother is currently in a rehab facility fighting every day to get well. She has occupational and physical therapist working with her to try and regain mobility in her left side. She will be at the facility until they clear her to go home which may not be for several more months.
