My name is David Harrington and I'm a social worker/discharge planner at a Skilled Nursing Home/Rehab facility in Johnston County, NC.

For the past year or so, as part of my initial intake with new Rehab patients, I have given each person a copy of More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell, a short introduction to Christian apologetics, emphasizing the rationality and truth of the Gospel. The facility owners gave me permission to do this, but the book itself must come from me rather than from the facility/management/owners. So far, I've given away upwards of 200 copies. However, I've come to realize that I can't continue bearing the cost alone.

I discovered this particular book around 1994 during a crisis of faith; my former pastor gave me a copy. The message communicated really struck me and started me on a Christian apologetics journey that continues to this day. That little book inspired me to then buy hundreds of books defending the Christian faith, and my interest in that subject has been a great help to me for decades.

The patients at my facility have access to Bibles in each room, but I really think this simple little book offers them some easy, but profound reading that may just spark in them some hope and hopefully a motivation to plumb the depths of that Bible in the end table drawer beside them. It also presents the Gospel message clearly, so the reader encounters the opportunity to bend the knee to Christ.

You have my word that every penny I raise will go toward providing these books. When I purchase them, I look for the best bulk prices, which usually means obtaining 30 to 60 copies (for usually $100 to $200 total). I'll look for the lowest price in order to stretch this money as far as I can.
