Life springs upon us different challenges, for some more than others & this is Daniel’s life.
My name is Liz & right now I’m asking for help for my nephew/godson, Daniel Angel DeJesus.
Daniel was born on September 8, 1991, in Hackensack, New Jersey. A happy, healthy baby boy whose arrival was long awaited with joy & happiness. Daniel was growing like any other child until shortly after his 8th birthday when sudden weight loss came with the diagnosis of diabetes. Throughout his life, he has faced a multitude of challenges, battles & complications.
In 2012, what seem to be a “simple accident”, became a turning point in his life. A lacerated pancreas & spleen was followed by a year of pain, numerous hospitalizations, unintentional weight loss, nutritional deficits (still affecting him today) & other medical complications that would in turn worsen his diabetes.
Fast forward to early 2021, while vacationing Daniel noticed some visual changes. The next year entailed more medical visits & procedures to preserve his vision. This brings me to the present. September 2022, while having routine pre-surgical lab work, Daniel was instructed to see a nephrologist (kidney specialist) as soon as possible… “your kidneys are failing”, he was told. It has been a barrage of medical specialist visits, ICU hospitalization, and complications since. It was then he was told, medical treatment has failed, “you need dialysis to save your life." And so two days prior to Christmas 2022, after another surgery dialysis was initiated. There was no time to process the thought of kidney failure, never mind dialysis. Since Christmas, his life routine was dramatically changed. Now a 4 am alarm to wake, three times a week to have dialysis treatment is the new routine. After treatment Daniel goes to his full-time work at a rehabilitation hospital which allows him to have health insurance & financial self-support. It’s a grueling treatment but we admire his spirit & strength to fight every day.
On November 30, 2022, we went for a kidney transplant evaluation. Good news… he is a candidate!!! & so the search for a donor began. January 2023, a possible match was found & officially early this month a perfect match was found… his only sister Jennifer, without hesitation, is willing to give her brother another chance at a better life.
This Wednesday, March 29, 2023, will be an epic day as Daniel will undergo a kidney transplant. Friends & family, this is where we need your help. I’m asking for your financial support for this medical endeavor. Please consider donating any amount, all of which will help cover some medical expenses & medications which Daniel will need for his life.
I pray for all reading this, good health & many blessings & my deepest appreciation for your donation consideration. If you personally know Daniel, you know he is a private person with a huge kind heart for people & animals, a crazy sense of humor & devotion to his work. Thank you for being a part of this life-altering event.
Much appreciation, love & blessings to all,
Liz
