Support Daniel’s Healing

Donation protected
As a community, we are asking everyone to come together to help raise funds for Daniel Henry.

Our dear friend Daniel has been left in an unthinkable position, with the tragic loss and violent death of his beloved parents Colin Henry and Veronica Dekid-Henry. Due to the heartbreaking details of the case, we have included a link to the article for individuals who would like to know more (TW: death, harm, murder):

Daniel was born and raised in Toronto. He attended Richview Collegiate Institute where he graduated as Class Valedictorian before attending the University of Waterloo. During his undergraduate tenure, Daniel successfully completed 175 flight hours at the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre towards his Commercial Pilot Certification. In 2019, Daniel became the first member of his family to graduate from University with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies. Daniel was living out his dreams and forging his family's legacy when this devastating tragedy struck.

With the sudden loss of both his parents, Daniel’s world has been shattered. Not only has he lost the two most important people in his life, but his expenses have tripled. Consequently, he has been rendered homeless, drowning in his parents’ funeral costs, and reliving the trauma of the situation day after day. In his current state, it is unknown if he will be able to return to work in the short term. Daniel needs us, his community, to aid in supporting him as he navigates the contours of his grief.

We recognize that grief is a lifelong process. Death is always tragic, but this brutal world does not stop turning. Daniel needs help, in the aftermath of his loss, to support his basic necessities. Every little bit helps during these very trying times. Contributions collected from this campaign will go towards the following:

  • Mental Health Supports (i.e., therapy to aid in the grieving process)
  • Funeral and burial costs for both parents
  • Costs to organize and attend the memorial in Jamaica
  • Daily necessities, such as food, clothing, and cost of transportation
  • Living arrangements as a single person (i.e., first and last month's rent, utilities, insurance, etc.)
  • Technology to facilitate communication with family and friends (Daniel's devices were unfortunately destroyed)
  • Any other unforeseen expenses

By contributing to this fund, we hope to relieve some of Daniel’s stress and give him the capacity to move forward in this painstaking journey ahead. It is important for us to show up for him now when he needs it most. He has touched the lives of countless people, and we call on you today for your support. We kindly ask that you please donate whatever you can and share this within your community and networks.

Celebration of life for Daniel's parents will be held at Kingsview Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Friday, October 14th, 2022 at 10:30 AM EST:

More on Daniel’s Life and Aspirations

From childhood, Daniel and his family attended the Kingsview Village Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Throughout his life, Daniel worked hard to always center his community, which is reflected in his involvement with the ROPE program—An Afrocentric initiative designed to assist male teenagers transitioning from boyhood to adulthood. After graduating from the program in 2013, he eagerly assumed the role of Program Coordinator, while simultaneously pursuing his passion of becoming a Pilot. To date, the ROPE Program has seen the successful graduation of over 100 young men.

Our beloved Daniel’s life reflects his parents’ values and their dedication to faith and community. Daniel is kind, loving, and selfless. Even in his desperate time of need, he has articulated his aspirations of one-day supporting families suffering in silence, so they are able to obtain the lifesaving support they need.

The tragedy of losing his parents so soon cannot be reversed, but their legacy will live on in their community's memories and in their beloved son. Please keep Daniel and his family in your prayers. We thank you in advance for your support.

God bless you.
