Two months ago life was going along just fine for my cousin, Danielle. She graduated from teacher's college, began applying to three school boards here in Ontario with high hopes of becoming employed as a supply teacher this September. Danielle was job hunting and apartment hunting while caring for her 6 year old son; then she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ breast cancer and had to have a lumpectomy to remove two small cancerous tumours. The oncologist found more cancer; after a sentinel lymph node biopsy and a second lumpectomy, the surgeries revealed more cancer in her breast and was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma 1st stage - second grade). She required an immediate unilateral mastectomy. In an extremely short period of time, she learned all about her options, made rapid decisions about the types of surgery, including reconstructive surgery she would proceed with, and recently underwent the mastectomy this week on September 19th.

My cousin is recovering well with an incredibly positive attitude! But, her job hunt and her apartment hunt have come to an abrupt halt. Her wonderful ex husband is caring for her 6 year young son as she heals and gets these things figured out. Life has thrown her 3 curve balls all at once and she could really use some help from us.
