Support Daniel Schmitz's Heart Recovery

The Schmitz kids are starting this GoFundMe to help our parents with hospital bills.

Our dad, Daniel Schmitz, had a major heart attack on May 28th, and was taken to the hospital by our mom, Deborah Schmitz. The doctors found that all his major arteries were blocked and were amazed that his heart was still beating, much less that he had walked into the emergency room.

He was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, intubated, got an impella (helps pump the heart) and got six stents put in with possible plans to go back in the future to put in more stents. He was kept sedated for two days.

After he was awoken and exubated, he started regaining his strength and was discharged from the hospital on June 2nd.

He spent a total of only six days in the hospital, and that’s partly because he has always been so healthy and active.

Our dad was a paramedic in the Albuquerque Fire Department for over twenty years. Before retirement, he had gone back to school to finish his degree. Immediately after retiring from AFD, he got accepted into and begun Physicians Assistant School. He worked as a PA in Belen for several years until he and our mom decided to move out of state to be closer to a few of their kids and grandkids. They spent a lot of time and put a lot of work into remodeling the house and getting all seven acres ready to sell.

Our dad has always been present, active and supportive in each of our lives. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader, he and our mom were in charge of AYSO in Belen as well as coached soccer for many seasons, he has always been involved in church events and served weekly by playing drums in our church’s worship team.

Although six days is a relatively short amount of time, when it’s spent in the hospital, the bill grows and it adds up quickly.

Our dad has not been working, due to the house being on the market and their plan to move, and thus, they do not have health insurance. This is the reason for the GoFundMe.

It took many miracles for our dad to still be here today, and we rejoice for that!
