While financial resources feel inadequate in the face of such impossible loss, it is a privilege to ease some of the immediate and long-term burdens that Daniel and his family will carry, including funeral costs, medical bills, loss of income, and more.

On August 31, following a healthy and joyful pregnancy, Lucy developed preeclampsia and another complication that required immediate delivery by c-section. Their daughter Daisy was born on September 1st, six weeks early but already over five pounds and in good health. As we celebrated Daisy's safe arrival, there remained concern about Lucy. Certain metrics of health didn't seem to be improving as quickly as hoped, and she was being closely monitored and treated.

Around one week after delivering, late into the night of September 7, things took a turn as Lucy's body started to show signs of severe distress. She was sedated and intubated and checked for liver failure, internal bleeding, and other causes. It was ultimately determined that she was in profound septic shock due to a bacteria (the source of which is still unknown), and she remained intubated and sedated while treated with dialysis, blood transfusions, and antibiotics. In the early afternoon of September 11, Lucy passed peacefully and without pain, surrounded by loved ones and under the care of a talented medical team that had spared no effort.

Our hearts are completely shattered over the loss of our beautiful Lucy, for the love of her life, Daniel, for their precious new daughter, Daisy, and for their loving parents: Laura, Bill, Lisa, and Brad. Lucy was a light wherever she went, a deeply kind person, an embodiment of goodness and love. Where hope has been crushed, our love for her remains strong. And while we don't know what amount of financial support is enough, we know that the combined efforts and generosity of this community will be. Thank you for your love and support.
