In the early morning of May 31, my brothers store Greek Town Cigars (next door to Artopolisin Chicago), was robbed and vandalized by 5 different groups of looters between 1:30 - 5:30 AM. He and my father built this store from nothing 6 years ago, and was one of the last things they did together before my dad passed away a few months later. My brother put everything he had into this store working 6 days a week , 12 + hours a day. His customers and community love him.
We counted 22 people, coming in, breaking windows, doors, show cases, and literally shopping for things to steal. 75% of his inventory is gone. These were not protesters, we are advocates for the black lives matter movement, but this wasn’t that. These looters were taking advantage of the situation to come up and take things from hard working small business minority owners.
My brother is the most generous and kind hearted person. He never asks for anything from anyone. He’s a provider, never wants anything in return. He provides for his wife & kids and helps take care of my mom. When I mentioned to my brother about starting a go fund me page to at least help with repairing the damages & buying more inventory , he didn’t object. I was shocked to hear that, coming from the guy that always declines help because he doesn’t want to bother people. That’s when I knew he was hurting. He was willing to accept donations to help get his business back up and running again, he said “I need all the help I can get at this point.”
So please, any help is appreciated, no dollar is too small. Thank you for reading.
