The Curious Book Shop and its owner, Ray Walsh, have been a staple of the East Lansing community and the mid-Michigan area for the last 50 years. We've had book signings with Stan Lee and many other creators, are involved with various local summer reading programs, and host the largest book and paper show of its kind in the Midwest.
Even today, customers will come into the store or send us messages, telling us about the first time they wandered into the shop, often decades ago as children.
We're one of the longest operating independently-owned businesses in East Lansing. It's our hope that we'll be able to share our space with the community for another 50 years.
The outbreak of Covid-19 forced us to close the doors of both Curious and our sister store, the Archives Book Shop. While we're doing our best to adapt to these strange times by shifting focus to our online stores, the loss of the foot traffic we relied on so heavily before has consequently endangered our livelihood.
We're asking for assistance from the East Lansing community and anyone who has been impacted by our little stores in some way. We love our customers, and while books might not be in your budgets right now, any funds you're able to donate will help keep us alive and thriving in the community.
Donations will assist in keeping the books housed, the lights on, the rent paid and our employees fed!

We are very grateful for the patronage of our loyal customers as well as the love of the general book community. It is because of support from book lovers like yourselves that independently-owned book stores have survived through the ages.
Ray has always made it a priority to share his love for books with the community since 1969 as a student at Michigan State University. He has fond memories of transporting books on his bicycle and selling them out of the basement of a small house near campus.
We hope to continue spreading the joy that only a good book can provide in the near future and for many years to come!
