COVID-19 is hitting everyone hard on the Sunshine Coast, but especially those in the hospitality industry. We know many of you want to help and have asked “how” supporting local businesses directly where possible is THE best way as our community relies on our small business owners and the people they employ. Many businesses will be faced with difficult times and we want to build a fund to help those in need.
Many of you have already closed up shop and have been forced with layoffs, the government of Canada received 500,000 EI applications this week alone! However, EI only covers 55% of what people were earning leaving a large portion of the population near or under the poverty line making it difficult to acquire basic necessities.
You can help by donating to this Support Coastal campaign, 100% of money raised will be distributed to those in need, with a priority focus on hospitality workers living on the Sunshine Coast. Note, this isn’t exclusive to Hospitality workers so if you need help, please reach out - our goal is to distribute this fund to everyone that needs it, even if it’s just covering a cell phone bill as an example.
