Help Claudia fight Papillary Cancer
Donation protected
As most of you know my sister Claudia has been battling a rare auto immune condition for quite some time and receiving immunotherapy to control her disease every few months in hospital.
After completing a pet scan to check to see if the treatment was working and controlling her disease, by complete accident the doctors discovered a nodule in the thyroid that was deemed suspicious.
The doctors had assured us that these nodules were commonly found and usually benign but that we would do an ultrasound to get more information. When she completed the ultrasound, they found another nodule and decided it would be best to complete a biopsy of the bigger one just to be safe.
After an anxious and long 4 weeks wait with no answers, we assumed that there was nothing to worry about as we were told that if it was bad news we would urgently be contacted which did not happen. But as Claudia had been coughing severely, having problems with her voice, experiencing neck pain and vomiting with blood on numerous occasions she attended her GP each week for monitoring which prompted him to try and locate the biopsy results.
Unfortunately, we received the news on 27th of November (over a month later) that it is cat 5 for Papillary Cancer (a type of cancer found in the thyroid).
This is devastating news for our family and especially for Claudia who has already been off work trying to treat her existing condition that has been extremely debilitating itself. We do not have much information to go off and are unsure of if it is spread.
But Claudia will now require on going care and will need to see a surgeon, endocrinologist and ent team to figure out a suitable plan to treat the cancer without effecting her existing condition & treatment.
This will again be a very challenging time for her as treatment usually involves the removal of thyroid and surrounding area if spread, possible radiation treatment on top of her immunotherapy which is next due in February. There may also be the need for medication for life to regulate her hormones.
Claudia does not have private health care so has been placed on the public wait list for all specialists involved. Over the years we have seen my sister suffer and her condition deteriorate due to lengthy wait times & delays for her care in the public system, it has not been easy for her financially either having to start and stop work so regularly, so we have created this go fund me to hopefully make things a little less stressful for her and to show her that she does have support and doesn't have to go through such a stressful experience again.
Any funds that get donated will be used for:
-ongoing living expenses/ bills while Claudia is unable to work
- to assist with managing her health care and specialist appointments as much as possible through the private system so that we can speed up her recovery and treatment.
If you can help in any way, we would be extremely grateful.
Thank you for reading & we will keep you updated as we get more information.
